Before the Internet....

I think I started to keep some kind of sketchbook in the late 80s early 90s during high school. At least some of the stuff in these books dates back to then. I probably had more sketches from this time but they either disappeared or were disposed of during the annual moves that happened during and after college. What's left are books that I really started to work in from the years 1996 through 2006. A new job and a concentration in a Master's degree in Library and Information Science pretty much stopped any work I was doing on art. I was able to finish a few quilts and started on some wooden chains, but for the most part, this has been the least productive 3 years since I was 13.

Back to the sketchbooks-

The sketchbooks were a catchall for me. They include drawings, photographs, ephemera from people and places, ideas, quotes, detailed instructions from books, long passages from more books, and I think maybe one or two tokens from Bobby Dee's on the Wildwood Boardwalk. Most of the books are filled with quotes from books and you can see the text surrounding some of the images in the books. The sketchbooks are currently on a shelf in the closet waiting for the next one to join them (right next to the LPs waiting to be painted).

The most recent sketchbook links my growth series with my latest sketches that incorporate machine parts and images from television. These sketches are in ink and can take up the entire page or take up two facing pages. (Example.) I hope to add more images from this book as I finish pieces.
